Insurance Policies

Vanderburgh County provides medical group health insurance and life insurance for elected officials and full-time County employees. The County Auditor manages these benefits for all eligible County employees with the exception of the life insurance policies for the Vanderburgh County Sheriff's deputies.

Life Insurance

Effective April 1, 2005, a new Term Life and Accidental Death and Dismemberment Insurance policy will be carried through MetLife on all eligible Vanderburgh County employees.
  • Eligible employees age 64 and under will receive $15,000 of coverage.
  • Eligible employees age 64 and over will receive $10,000 of coverage.
  • Cost will be a penny a month.

    Complete the Medical Transition form if you were / are under a physician's care as of 1/1/09 to continue services.

    Complete the Pharmacy Transition form for any medications that you are currently on and are having trouble filling. Write the name of the medications in the Step 2 area ( next to "Step 2:").

    The employee should complete all three sections. The doctor does not have to complete anything at this point. (No physician signature is required.) Please fax or mail the completed forms directly to Welborn Health Plans as directed in Step 3.

    Group Health Insurance Plan for Retired County Employees

    Pursuant to I.C. 5-10-8-2.6, the group health insurance program, as provided to full-time Vanderburgh County employees, is hereby made available to qualified retired Vanderburgh County Employees. Use the Retirement link to the left under Benefits to see the qualifications.

    Humana Medicare Supplement for Retirees:

    Beginning June 1, 2008 the Commissioners approved a Medicare Advantage Plan offered by The Humana Group for any Vanderburgh County Retiree or their spouse/widow(er). You are eligible if: you are at least 65 years old, enrolled in Medicare Parts A & B, employee had 10 years of County service and is vested with PERF. You need to contact Morgan Hataway with Humana directly at 812/449-0678 or mhataway@humana.com.

    Group Health Insurance Plan for Retired Sheriff Sworn Deputies

    Pursuant to I.C. 5-10-8-2.6, the group health insurance program, as provided to full-time Vanderburgh County employees, is hereby made available to qualified retired Vanderburgh County sworn deputies and Sheriffs. Use the Retirement link to the left under Benefits to see the qualifications.
